  • Drooping black icicle tomato

I'm growing Black Icicle in the greenhouse for the first time this year. The plant is wilting and looks like it's on its last legs. At first I thought the capillary mat wasn't in right (the tomatoes are in Quadgrows), but it wasn't that. I gave it a good water, but it is still drooping and looking awful, but a few weeks have passed and it's still growing and flowering.

I was toying with removing the plant in case it has some disease, but then I noticed my second Black Icicle, less far advanced than this one, is also looking droopy! It's on the other side of the greenhouse.

Is this what Black Icicles do?

Mostly flowers, some fruit and veg, at the seaside in Edinburgh.

I've never grown this variety, but with the constant up and down of the temperatures most of my tomatoes have some drooping leaves, I have removed a few of the lower ones to aid the growth going up to the fruit and flowers, which seem to be growing and developing well.

I've grown this a couple of times and written in my log "a thug with leaves that grow downwards". So in my case, they obviously didn't look "poorly" but the leaves grew down rather than horizontally. I also said "well worth growing".

Yours are one hell of a lot more advanced than mine Ms-T.
                Well done.
                But I’m Very patient
Grew them last year and they looked weedy and droopy, so I almost gave up on them - but they produced a really good crop of lovely tasty tomatoes.

My leaves look a lot like yours Ms-T. It's amazing that whoever crossed this variety in the first place didn't just chuck the plant on the compost heap.

I am also growing Black Icicle for the first time as well.
Looks just like yours Ms T ...Just putting up the third truss of tomatoes now.
Sowed at the end of January.
I remember Scarlet mentioning that they can look quite droopy.
                      Looking forward to tasting them.
