  • ICL Levington Advance Pot and Bedding Composts.

    Hello Folks,

The world has gone mad on composts!
All I have been able to get is ICL Levington Advance Pot and Bedding composts, M1 and M2.

Have any of you used these before? M1 is low nutrient and M2 is medium nutrient.

I wanted to plant up pots of Carrots, Pea Shoots, Lettuces, Assorted Annuals and some Box Topiary (John Innes no.3 is out of stock till September!)

    Any advice welcome

Low nutrient doesn't sound ideal for any of those, but carrots, pea shoots and lettuce should probably cope best with it.
Medium nutrient should be fine for all except the box.
The box really needs more substance, ideally. I'd recommend just making your own John Innes-type compost by mixing the M2 compost with garden soil.

Thanks Ameno. Do you think if I mix in some fish, blood and bone in with the M1 it would be ok?

For the crops and annual bedding at least, yeah. Careful not to add too much, though, as it may burn the roots.

I always use F,B & B as a top dressing to avoid the roots.

Thanks Burnie and Ameno, I've just found a tub of Miracle Grow continuous release plant food so will mix that in as plant instead of the FBB.
