Only in winter. It bolts if the days are getting longer and also bolts if it's too hot. But mine did superb planted in mid sept and then put in the tunnel. Was eating it all winter.

I had the same Jimmy, but learnt that apparently they are better in part shade than full sun. I have tried them since though to be fair

I sowed some last August and had a few stir fries out of them, and planning to try again this year - might try popping some in greenhouse as SS suggested ;-)

Agree ... it does better growing in the early Spring or late Autumn

The ones I grow now in full sun, under a light purple tulle is doing well, nice and big with the white stems, but the ones I thought would do better in the bottom of the garden, where it's shaded until late afternoon, under netting, has mostly bolted. Weird.

Got some new seedlings come up so I'll keep trying in both areas to get an idea of what's going on.

Also got some Chinese cabbage, napa cabbage, wong bok - so will plant those out same way and keep an eye on them.

Oriental veg is always best in the colder months or kept well in the shade in the summer.
The early heatwave messed up the first batch which should have been OK to be out in the open at that time of the year, but the second batch I put in containers in a nice shaded spot are nearly ready.
