The weather is about to get significantly colder with widespread frost at night and the possibility of snow in places. There has been huge disagreement between the models regarding the length of the cold spell, mainly due to uncertainty in the track of a low pressure which brings with it warmer air. It now seems likely that the low will bring less cold conditions to the southern half of the country around 5th Jan although it may well get colder again later. The north may not see a warmer spell at all. In between, currently forecast to be Wales and the midlands, there could be significant snow. Details are to be confirmed as this sort of thing is very hard to forecast (it could be rain, or snow turning to rain), but it is worth keeping an eye on forecasts and warnings.A life is like a garden. Thanks Pen.
We’ve apparently had a warm spell over the past couple of days but the wind chill has been awful.
Ot wouldn’t surprise me now - after reading your post- if we are in for a very cold spell.
Thanks for the heads up…better forewarned!.. much appreciated. X"Nicos, Queen of Gooooogle" and... GYO's own Miss Marple

Snow is always extremely difficult to forecast accurately, but it does look as though tonight may well produce quite a lot for Wales (where it is already snowing) the pennines and parts of the north and west, and there could be a fair covering in the north east too. Quite how much falls as sleet at lower levels remains to be seenA life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Here in Rugby, the far Eastern end of the West Midlands, the snow has been a bit disappointing. About 8mm as of 01:45. It's still coming down, but not heavily.Last edited by Mark Rand; 05-01-2025, 01:44 AM.Location:- Rugby, Warwckshire on Limy clay (within sight of the Cement factory)

Some very nasty conditions forecast from storm Eowyn on Friday, with yellow wind warnings for much of the country. The strongest gusts are expected in northern England and look horrendous on the latest Met Office run. This is the chart for mid day on Friday:
There is also likely to be heavy rain in places and this could fall as snow on high ground in the north, with blizzards possible.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy
