  • Cayenne Chillies and Sweet Pointed Peppers

    Hello folks,

Is it possible to keep, successfully, large Cayenne Chillies and Sweet Pointed Pepper plants over winter?
Should I nip off any remaining flowers or cut the plants back?
Will existing fruit be likely to ripen or should they be removed too?
Do you bring them indoors or keep in an unheated greenhouse or shed?
Should I let them dry out completely?

I'd like to try and have a mature plant for an earlier crop next year, but wonder if it's more trouble than it's worth.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

I did keep a Cayenne over winter in the conservatory, but it became infested with whitefly, nothing else did, they seem to be a magnet for pests. The result was an earlier crop the following year, but I didn't get anymore fruit than I got for an early sowing of new seed. I gave up on over wintering, but I know many do it with far more success than I managed.

Like Burnie said. White fly was the problem with mine as well.
Personally I dont now bother to overwinter them, just sow new seeds very early.
Keep us posted if you do decide to give them a try.

That has just saved me asking.
Will the small chillies be ok to use.
        Thank you.
