  • Leeks for free ?

One of my leeks has bolted, variety below zero.
The stem seems to have bent over and flower head landed on the soil.
It looks like a little bunch of flowers have formed.

    Any idea what's going on?

    Thanks
    Jimmy

You leek is making a seed head, from which I suppose you could get seeds from, but if its in its first year of growth it is not recommended that you save them as it has went to seed too early and any plants grown from its seeds could have the same trait, I would remove the leek from the garden and if you want to use it remove the hard stem from the middle of the leek, this stem might taste a bit bitter so is usually discarded, use what's left
If more of your leeks are going to seed break off the thickening stem but harvest these plants first
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
