Planted out some perpetual spinach/chard, not sure which. They are fairly small so going in the last chance saloon patch along with some swede with arrested development. Also 3 bronze beauty lettuce and 4 radicchio as think they are tough enough to survive on the plot.
    Sweetcorn chopped up and composted.
6 spring cabbage popped in under a cloche.

    Tame the hedges day.

Now that there is no danger of disturbing nests we can really have a go at the mixed hedges.

Hawthorn is a bit of a bully and needs to be cut away from such as our sea buckthorn, blackthorn, tamerisk, pittosporum, and gorse.

It's taken seven or eight years to get the hedges established and now they fight back, so I guess that's good.

Cleared my finished watermelon plants, and pulled up a dead squash plant.

Ordered nematodes for lawn leatherjackets. Haven't actually seen any crane flies but don't want devastation like we had three years ago.

Collected a piled high trailer full of fine wood chips with plenty of green (for adding to compost), pottered about on the lotty and did lots of nattering. Showed a party of new tenants round the plot.

Verticut the lawn, which left the patches invaded by weed grasses almost bare. A bit scary.

Seeded and top dressed those patches with screened topsoil.

Overseeded the whole lawn for good measure.

    Sprinkled on about 2cm

Fingers crossed and keep it moist for a couple of weeks.

Pulled out the remains of my melon plants, now that the melons are all picked. Also trimmed up the watermelon plants to try and remove some of the diseased material, which seems to be spreading like mad.
    Fed and watered almost everything.
