I'm sowing a pea top pot this weekend - a pot of peas all sown really close together - just to use the pea tips in salads/rice dishes etc. Well, I will once i brave the outside and get a pot and some compost sorted out.

(Also, I wonder if you can do them in a sprouter if you just want shoots??)

Plant the peas anytime you like - shoulder to shoulder in a pot. Keep them on the windowsill. Cut the shoots to use in salad etc - they taste just like fresh peas. The shoots can be cut 2 or 3 times before giving in.

Yup, I'll start a thread on the day, one for toms and one for onions/alliums - just check in here on the day and add your info/piccies/varieties etc - and add to it as we all go.

It will be interesting to see varieties and locations, and who gets the first crops of toms in May/June time. Meta-research across the country. Great stuff!

The only way I could get decent (non-leggy) plants from a pre-March sowing here is by heating the greenhouse. I don't think the cost is worth it for a few very early un-flavoursome fruits.

I confess, I sprouted all my peas, beans, etc., people said to do for winter planting on damp paper in one of those multi-tier mung bean sprouter things, just cos it seemed logical and I already had it, worked a treat........

Didn't do the rinsing bit, cos I wasn't doing it to eat them, wish I had now - if i'd known I could, i'd have left all the 'extras' that sprouted and used them in meals.
