  • Hydroponics

I'm not sure if this is the right place, but does anyone grow veg using hydroponics? I'm a keen pepper grower and took a few cuttings off of last years plants and they've now rooted in a glass of water and I'm not sure whether to put them in soil and grow normally or whether to have a go with non circulating hydroponics. Will they be OK if I put them in soil now? They've been in a glass of water since November!

I think they should be fine in soil, if the roots are good.

Not full on hydroponics, but I did start using old rainwater guttering as a method of watering the tomatoes in my poly tunnel last year.

The general idea is the gutter underneath acts as a reservoir, and the plants sit on top in pots, then draw up as much water as they want. It worked well, and I used it to feed the plants too, once they were growing strongly.

Plenty of clips on U-tube, which is where I got the idea.

Would you have to make a big investment in hydroponics to do this? If not, why not try an experiment? Do half and half and see how they go?

my dad used to grow lettuce in his water butt using the old polystyrene plant pot trays - it kept them slug free he said - back in the day when you only got butter head lettuce ... I still hate it today
