Has anyone noticed the influx of these into the shops recently?
I had to look them up as I've never heard of them before!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
They have been around since 1998 but were mostly exported to the continent.
They are now popular with the supermarkets as they have high resistance to black dot and silver scurf so the skins look good when they are washed.
I have never tried eating them myself.
I have tried eating some. Not that great.Typical spud grown for the supermarket.
The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.
Yes, I spotted them in Morrisons the other day. Also another variety of reds which I can't remember the name of (not Romano or Desiree), I didn't get any, bought Desiree as usual, but I wish I had coz the Desiree were awful, going green, scabby
Hmm. I'm proud to say I haven't. We're still munching our way through the home grown spuds - we buy 2 huge jacket spuds every now and then but that's it.
I grew some rooster from peelings in pots and upended them on Friday - made lovely chippy chip chips!

I had not heard of them until this year, 2011. Shops - Morrisons, Tesco and Cooperative Food are full of them, claiming that they are baking potatoes. I've had several of them and they are disgusting being tasteless and wet when cooked. The Potato Council says they are boiling potatoes, so they must have some advantage for supermarkets. Certainly none for customers. I've complained to Morrisons about them.
Like Zezan at this time of year I buy only the odd baking spud, but when the main crop come in that will be me done buying spuds until March next year, or maybe later with a bit of luck.

Dont forget, a lot of supermarkets, and some of thier customers only buy with thier eyes. When i was a fruit and veg buyer for our group of shops back in the 80s and 90s i used to buy a lot of supermarket rejects and my customers never minded odd shapes and sizes as they were saving a lot by shopping with us.

Hi,
I have been eating these for years but cannot always find them, they are a very white pot, quite sweet and can make fab chips or roasties, I got myself an allotment last year and everyone kept saying get sarpos, but i found them all mushy, so this year Harmony will be all I am planting.
