We are expecting a delivery of asparagus crowns over the next day or so - exciting! But we are worried about planting them with the prospect of the further frosts forecasted. The bed is thoroughly prepared and ready to go! What would you do?

If your soil is not frozen I would be tempted to get them planted out. If it is really sub-zero in the next few days maybe cover the bed with fleece or straw. Up here in the arctic wastes of Yorkshire mine seem to thrive in the local conditions as long as they are well weeded.

I'd go with what GF said. Asparagus is tougher than you'd expect. Our first spears are just showing.

I covered my asparagus with fleece and bubble wrap and it seems to be fine today in spite of minus 4 last night. I would plant it out.

Thanks for your advice! We’ll get planting and look forward to our lovely asparagus spears - in 3 years’ time 🤣

Definitely worth the wait. This is our third year.
