  • Onion & garlic leaves turning yellow

Have a lot of onions & garlic, grown from sets and cloves, while they started off fine, lower leaves going yellow.
What is going wrong .... and how do I resolve.

Are they too dry - there has been no rain here for nearly a month until we finally got a little this evening.

I have certainly been watering my garlic as been so dry here. They seems to perk up a bit after that.

Could need nitrogen, mine had some seaweed fertiliser the other day, nitrogen’s used up quite fast in the soil (they had BFB in February too). What fertiliser have you used & when (over fertilising can cause problems too).

It has had Nitrogen feed .... can see 2nd feed as the white dusting on top.
I had not watered as books advise no need to water onion or garlic.
          Rained today in any event.

Strange that they say not to water. It is certainly the case that you shouldn’t overwater if you plant the bulbs in autumn, but at this time of year in dry spells I really think they need it.
