  • Compost weed barrier

This year I bought compost from the Green Waste co., here in Cornwall, I think it's recycled garden waste, it's fairly coarse and a bit twiggy.
spread thickly on the veg beds and left without digging in. Planted brassicas through the compost .
Result very few weeds and no slugs/snails ( I think it's to rough for them to crawl over).
£1 per bag, fill your own. I'll dig it in over winter and repeat next season.

Good result. When you say 'thickly', how thick are you talking?

Why dig it in? you could leave it on top to protect the soil life and just top it up. By topping up you'd also be building the fertility and structure of the soil and it'd most probably use less compost than starting from scratch each year

I use Green Waste Co compost. Great stuff at a pound a bag.

And you get to put Splattenridden into the satnav for the entertainment value of listening to her saying it.

I think it's mostly wood waste.
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."
