  • Tomato issues

I'm making this on behalf of my great uncle.

He's having some issues growing in pots for the first time and is wondering what the main problem could be with these tomato leaves which are curling upwards.

    Thank you!

Looks a perfectly healthy plant to me, the curling is most likely due to cold temperatures at night.
Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!
Always aim for the best result possible not the best possible result

Leaf roll like that can be a virus or, more likely, a response to environmental factors. This early, the plant will continue to grow and the leaf roll probably won't be a problem.

If it's your great uncle's first time growing in pots, maybe a lack of experience is causing the factors that give rise to leaf roll. Could be anything from too hot where it is to overwatering. Some info here to help you identify potential reasons:

Looks like stress probably because of the cold nights, they haven’t gone purple though so not as bad as they could get. Luckily the nights are getting warmer now & it should be alright
Also the pot looks a bit small for the plant,I would pot on into a 30cm wide container & bury the stem as deep as possible.

The main problem I've found growing in pots has been getting enough water to the plants when the weather gets hot.

I started using a gutter watering system last year, where the plants can suck as much water up from underneath as they want, and so far I think it's a big help.

This plant got curled leaves in a cold slap a few weeks back. Never uncurled but seems to be making little or no difference to cropping.
Pix show curled leaves (taken when first curled) and a truss on the plant (today)

I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."
