Belladine toms

Any one tried growing these? I have some started from seed this year and I find that they wilt very readily if they get slightly warm.
I just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem ?

I've just googled for them, mrsbusy, and can't find them. Where did you get the seeds? Might the supplier have any info?

If they're still quite small and don't have much in the way of roots as yet, maybe keep them somewhere cool till they're more developed and can cope with the heat.

How big are they?
I was wondering if the have become leggy and having difficulty supporting themselves?

Are those leaves definitely actually wilting? I've found the leaves of some tomato leaves naturally droop, but they are not actually wilting.
Wilting leaves will be soft and limp, whereas if they are naturally drooping they will still be fairly rigid and turgid, even whilst pointing down like that.

If they really are wilting then all I can suggest is that they are yet unused to these higher temperatures, and might take a week or so to adapt. In the mean time, maybe try to shade them or ventilate the greenhouse better. Raising humidity will also help to reduce water loss from the leaves.

Ah... Belladine, not Beladine. Odd that Google didn't offer that as a potential alternative.

Odd too that they should be wilting a bit, as I notice the King's site says they have good resistance to blossom end rot, so you'd expect them to be able to transport water up, no problem. Maybe it is the case that their roots haven't developed enough yet, especially if recently transplanted from a very small pot. If you think that's the case, keep in the shade till a bit better established.

I think so because they perk up! The leaves are softer than my other plants, so think it is to do with the heat.
I have potted them on but several weeks ago.

Hi again - I took the advice and emailed Kings about the tomatoes and have copied the reply I got below incase anyone is interested. I am also keeping them shaded and they seem to be coping better.


growing Belladine for the first time this season and it was evident from the early growing stage that the foliage had a ferny like appearance, this might appear as wilting. I am sure your plants will be ok in the greenhouse.
