  • Scotch bonnets failed again

Last year my scotch bonnets had no heat.
This year I had about a dozen pingpong ball sized fruits, some red some orange.
Thought I might cook some jerk chicken.
Aldi do 6 thighs for £1.65 , great.
Assembled the ingredients including 3 of my scotch bonnets. Thought I might try a small taste to check it wasn't over the top.
No heat at all, I could have eaten to whole chilli.
So added the three for flavour and bobbed in some thai hot and apache chillis which were HOT.

Anyone else experience cool running scotch bonnets.

    Is it the seed?

If they genuinely have almost no heat at all (and you're not just exaggerating and/or have grown so resistant you can no longer discern mild and moderate levels of heat) and if they are the same seeds you grew both years then I would certainly suspect the seeds are the problem, yes.
Growing environment does have an impact on ultimate pungency, but it shouldn't have that much of an effect.

I once grew some chillies, I can't remember the variety now, and gave one of the young plants to my sister. When they were ready at the end of Summer I was moaning to her that they were "blow your brains out hot". She gave me a look that just said "you are a wimp" and picked one off my plant and took a rather large bite. When she could eventually talk again we tried to work out why hers were really mild and mine (same seed packet) were the opposite. No idea why.

Doubt this helps but they're not one of these are they?

            Pepper Trinidad Perfume

What a really special chilli, it has an authentic, intense habanero flavour but without the searing heat!

Saw the picture in the DTBrown seed sell off and they looked great but the description had me moving right along!
