  • Premier seeds direct.

Just wondering if anyone has used Premier Seeds Direct and what they thought of them.
    Thanks.
    Bob.

I order from them all the time, and the seeds are usually good quality - good germination and true to type. And of course they're cheap, you get a lot of seeds, and they have a fairly good range (although not as good as more well-known suppliers).
Be aware that they come in plain packets with just a label saying the variety name, the number of seeds, and packaging and sow-by dates; no pictures or growing instructions. It's one of the ways they save on costs, I suppose.

They one bad point I would say is that the way they deal with complaints isn't great, at least in my experience. I had a pack of bean seeds from them this year which had very poor germination (they only packet out of 30 or more I've bought from them over the years I've had any problems with), and contacted them to ask for a replacement. They insisted that it wasn't their fault, and I was probably doing something wrong, as they had apparently germination tested the batch that packet came from and had 100% germination.
Other seed companies I've had problem seeds from usually just asked for the batch number then replaced or refunded with no further questions.
But for £1 a pack I guess you can't expect too much, and as I say that was the only packet I've had problems with (unlike D T Brown, for example, who I have had multiple problem packets from, although they have replaced or refunded all of them).

If you want to look into other cheap suppliers, Seekay Seeds are good, too, although they have a smaller range.
MoreVeg seeds small packets with fewer seeds in, for a cheap price (usually under £1 a pack).
Sow Seeds aren't quite as cheap, nor do they have as big a range, but they're still cheaper than the main suppliers, and they do have their own pictoral packaging.

I've found premier seeds very good too and good value for money. Always had good germination rates.

I actually like the plain packets - makes me feel like a seasoned grower and takes me back to my grandfather's day when all seeds came in fairly plain packaging
      Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
      Endless wonder.

        Been ok for me.
I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."

Thanks for above. They are the only stockists that have a variety that i am looking for. They seam very cheap but say they have a staff of 12 so must be ok. I never trust what others say in there reviews.

Always good, use them a lot. I like that you get small quantities of things. I would rather buy 100 carrot seeds for 99p than a packet of 28,000 for £2,99. I exaggerate of course, but I prefer to only buy what I know I'll use, even if it is worse value for money.
              Are y'oroight booy?

Never had any issues with them myself but read about people having chard instead of beetroot and gourd instead of courgettes. What I look out for is the suitability of seeds for the climate I grow in (cold Scottish Highlands) and I find them too generic. I don’t have the time to re sow if something goes wrong so I decided to drop them for suppliers of seed fit for my climate
