Weeding around cabbages

This will sound silly, but I have some cabbages growing, still quite small, there are now lots of ‘surface type’ weeds growing round them, I’ve dug around in attempt to remove some, but don’t want to disturb roots too much. Is it necessary to remove them ?

You could just break the weeds off at ground level for now, and then if they grow back you can pull them out later, once the cabbages are bigger and so will be disturbed less by it.

I agree with Ameno. Just keep snipping the weeds off. They'll likely give up eventually, and if not, you can remove them when you remove the cabbages.
