  • Potato Help

    Hi All,

Yesterday I posted about my flattened potatoes due to my kids football, but today I’ve been out and nearly all of them are now yellowing and collapsing. I’ve watered them well and kept them moist, today it’s been hot and the soil has dried over the day as I’m watering them now.

Is this just because they have been under watered and are now wilting?

I played the chitter potatoes end March/Early April so not sure they should be wilting for harvest yet.

    Any advice?

Since they are in pots, it's almost certainly lack of water.
In hot, dry weather they'll want a gallon or more per pot, per day.

They look healthy enough….I agree with ameno - step up the watering. If they don’t spring back, don’t worry, they do look very healthy .

Great news, I pulled my first tub out and I got lots of nice potatoes. I improved my watering and they perked up, but started wilting again and a saw a nice potato poking out of the soil so I decided to empty one tub. We are trying them tonight with gammon steak :-).

Will look at the other tubs at the weekend to see if the rest are ready or nearing. Family may be having gifts of potatoes with weekend :-)

Great news. That said, if they started wilting again, it's likely that they were thirsty again, no more than that.
