  • Do brassicas pollinate true?

I've got some purple sprouting that has been under net with cauli and romanescu, what odds of the seed being any good?

It depends what you want and what varieties your seeds were. If they were open pollinated and you are not too fussy about what you get as long as it is edible sprouting broccoli, they should be ok. Romanesco left to shoot is not unlike PSB. However if you particularly want the same variety that you sowed, it is unlikely that you will get it, and if your seed was F1 it definitely won't breed true even without the added uncertainty of the other brassicas.

I believe those all belong to the same species, so assuming they flower at the same time the chances are good that they will cross.
I doubt they'll produce much, if any seed under a net, though. They need insect pollination.

        Thanks all

I will see what comes of it.

(I have 4 mystery brassicas this year already - lost the labels in the greenhouse - so happy to live with vegetal uncertainty)
