  • Possible sweetcorn problem

First time for me ever growing sweetcorn and had no idea they'd get so big. Decided to throw a post on here to see if anyone thinks I will have any issues with the tassels/leaves touching the plastic on the tunnel and are still growing. Any tips on what I could do about it would be appreciated but I have already accepted I could be screwed.
    Thanks all

Gently shake the ones you can, they might release enough pollen to all the silks in the area as they’re in a block?

I wouldn't worry about it too much, to be honest. Them touching the plastic shouldn't do them any harm.
As said above, you will need to manually aid pollination, but that would have been the case anyway, since you are growing undercover and thus there is no wind.

Thanks a lot, that's exactly what I'll do, much appreciated!

Sweetcorn do grow tall, but yours especially so because you've given them such a fantastic protected environment with no wind. You should have a lovely crop if you do as described above. Congratulations and happy eating!

Can't wait, thank you. If I remember I will post a picture on here of some of the cobs!

Couple more questions for some of you guys if you don't mind. I attached two more photos of things I'm thinking could be an issue. I was hoping the potatoes don't have blight but wanted a second opinion. Also the new growth on my peppers are starting to look a little strange. Any ideas on what that could be? I was thinking maybe overwatering as it's the first year with the polytunnel I don't quite have it down right

I'll leave the potato question to someone with more experience than me. But the pepper plant problem is probably due to a lack of nutrients. Are you feeding them?

Yes, I put them in the bed with fresh compost on the 7th May and started feeding them Tomorite on 1st June and have been doing once a week since.

those potatoes look like they might have early blight, however early blight is actually mostly harmless and can be safely ignored unless the infection gets really bad.
Late blight (completely unrelated) is the devastating one, very quickly killing leaves and stems and also ultimately rotting the tubers.
By comparison, early blight spreads slowly and causes damage only to the leaves, not stems or tubers.

I would check under the distorted pepper leaves & just check for any sap sucking insect, tiny aphids that are the same colour as the plant. They can be sprayed off with a bit of water & a dot of ecover washing up liquid or a bit of hand soap, but spray after with clean water so there’s no bubble residue sitting on the leaves. The plants look healthy green. With those three potato leaves if you pinch them off, there’s no more problem, leaves will start to show signs of brown/yellow as they die down.
Edit - spray when the suns not on them
