Butternut squashes

I have two beds of butternut squashes one being from seed that was sold as melons.
The plants in both beds have set fruits in the normal way and they are almost fully ripe.
At the end of the hot weather the plants began to vine out rapidly and have set a second crop that will never ripen in time.
Has anyone else had a second crop set like this?
The bed that was meant to be melons grew out over the flying rat screen over a crop of kohlrabi. I had to jack it up to access the crop below.
It looks like I need to use lots of them like summer squashes.

I'd hang in there P70 - BNS can stand a couple of mild frosts while on the vine so with any luck they'll still have time to ripen enough before picking. After that they can continue ripening in storage.

That happens quite often with my squashes.
Depending when those fruit set and when your first frost is, they might even mostly ripen. That last one, at least, I would have thought would ripen in time.

There is still female flowers setting and the fruits are forming like courgettes.
I usually wait until the frost knocks out the leaves and harvest before the next frost.
My other squashes are ripe and the leaves have begun to fade so they will be coming in as soon as there is frost that starts to damage leaves.
