Hi all π. I'm new here and new to allotment life, after binging on the dirt podcast for a good few days I was wondering who to follow on Instagram for some inspiration? I get its not all about Instagram but just looking for some help/hints & tips etc and that seems like the obvious place to go to. Any suggestions welcome, thanks! πππ»

Welcome to The Vine South81!
So hard to suggest people as there are so many thousands to choose from! I follow lots for all different reasons but a couple off the top of my head are robsallotment and shegrowsveg.
I also really like cqgardens, which is Caroline Quentin, she is such a passionate gardener and makes good little clips.
I'm a no dig gardener so I also follow charles_dowding and stephaniehafferty amongst others.
Have fun getting to grips with your new allotment!Last edited by peanut; 10-02-2023, 10:39 AM.Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!

Hello and welcome from me too, South81.
I too follow Charles Dowding and am trying to go no-dig where possible.
I'm a bit old fashioned and like books. Big thumbs up from me for Joy Larkham's Grow Your Own Vegetables. A bit old school, but lots of info on planning your patch and on individual veg too. Her varieties are now out-of-date, but the general info is good.
There are plenty of growing guides here too: https://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/guides/fruit
Lots of friendly, knowledgeable folk here too glad to share their info.

Welcome to the Vine South81, like Snoop I have a preference for books, though I'm not of an age to be old-fashioned, as for going no dig this seems to be a more and more popular way of gardening, I run a gardening club averaging 16 members at the meetings, and of the 17 gardeners present, there is the correct way of gardening (my wayππ) and other 16 different ways of doing the same thing, so I would suggest you just have a look through all the various gardening videos and take from them the things that appeal to you, and like every other gardener you will develop your own way of doing things, being on the Vine you can ask questions, and from getting other folks point of view or method of gardening , can give you a guide on the way you want to do things, I find a forum like this gives you a quicker answer and better insight to working a garden, than watching YouTube
βββit may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Hi South, no Instagram for me either, but I do watch a lot of Youtube videos. Charles Dowding is always a good place to start if you are interested in no dig, and for a younger and extremely interesting perspective, Huw Richards is excellent.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy
