  • Quadgrow Nutrient

    Hi All

I'm having trouble getting Nutrigrow now, not sure what alternative to use as I read that liquid feeds in self watering systems may have potential for salt build up which could adversely affect the plants. I'm considering using regular compost in the pots as usual, and when depleted of nutrient, maybe start using a hydroponic nutrient. Interested to know what nutrients anyone else uses in a self watering system like quadrow or similar?

    Advice appreciated!

I use quadgrows for my tomatoes, and though I used nutrigrow to begin with, I've been using normal tomato food for the past two or three seasons. I found measuring out the two components a bit of a faff. I haven't found there's any problem with tomorite etc. What are the symptoms of salt build up, and I'll see if they seem familiar?

It's encouraging to hear that Tomorite works for you, and I'm tempted to try that. - what dosage did you use? Like you say it's simpler that a two part formula, and if it works!

I had another look on line and it seems symptoms of salt build up show and brown and dry leaves, and salt deposits on the soil and pot, and the solution if it happens is to flush the pots clean - so at least theres a solution! Not sure if some liquid fertilizers are more prone to this than others (amended my original post to reflect this), but it's something I can look out for whatever I choose.

Had great results with the quadgrows in the past - I use them outdoors and plants just thrive in them.

These are my feeding notes, as per the Tomorite label:

        Quadgrow/Duogrow 25L: Tomorite 111ml

        Chilligrow 7L Mini: Tomorite 31ml

I haven't noticed issues with brown leaves and have had good crops.

I use comp[ost from the big tomato growbags and use whatever is the cheapest tomato fertiliser.

Use the frequency per instructions and water until it runs out of bottom of quadgrow.

Sorry, very unscientific but it's worked for years!
