Well, I have absolutely no idea why this tree kale has decided to die after a not too harsh Winter. In fact brassicas like frost. I have had a few fresh green shoots from this a few weeks ago. This was only planted out last year and I have had success with them previously in all weathers. Is it worth pruning to encourage it to grow ?

One of my Daubentons perennial kales did not survive the cold temperatures either, I think some varieties are just more frost sensitive than others. The Taunton Deane was fine.
And the temperatures did go down lower and for longer than is usual in London.Location: London

Morning. I'm a bit late posting on this topic but I had 3 Taunton Deane - they were huge - they got frozen and the tissue damage on the stems caused collapse - the leaves looked fine. I took leaf cuttings some of which are looking ok.
I too thought they would survive overwinter but if the stems freeze it's game up.
I left the frozen ones in the ground and will wait and see if they grow from the base
