  • Getting herbs ready for new season

    Hey folks,

I have my little herbs pots on a wall which have been left out over winter. I’m just wondering what the best POA is to ensure they look their best this coming year. Do things like rosemary and thyme need cutting back?

same with mint? I’ve noticed fresh shoots coming out from the soil so don’t think I have much to worry about with that?

what about softer herbs like oregano? Will that regrow or does it need resizing?

any help appreciated, keeping healthy herbs is a weak spot

How are they looking. Do they all look alive but wintering? Of you have a look there is a herb part of the forum. You might get a better response there 😊

Mint and oregano should be cut back hard (you'll find most of last year's stems are probably dead, anyway). They'll reshoot from the base.
Thyme doesn't really need pruning unless it's getting too big, and rosemary should only ever be lightly trimmed, as if you cut it back to bare stems it won't grow back (you don't actually need to prune it, though. It's fine left as is).
