  • Tomato blight?

Hello! Just wanted to ask some advice, as I am a little concerned about my tomatoes (possibly in denial).

I put the toms out to harden off a week or so ago, they looked great at that point. Since then we have had a lot of rain, and when I went to plant them into their final pots today, I noticed most of them have brown bits on their leaves. My brain instantly went to the worst case scenario of tomato blight, but could it be that they got to wet?

Any advice or thoughts as to what to do would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Its cold damage I think,I plant them out when the temps at least 10 degrees overnight,it’s been quite cold at night. Fleece around them would help now they’re planted. Are they in a greenhouse?

      It's definitely not blight.
It's possible it's some more minor fungal disease (in which case, don't worry about it too much, as other fungal diseases tomatoes can get are relatively harmless).
However, those particular symptoms (brown blotches between the veins) look a lot more like magnesium deficiency to me. This can be prompted be cold nights, but you plants don't seem to be showing other cold temperature symptoms (purpling of the leaves), so I suspect the compost is to blame. Either way, I would feed them weekly either with a liquid feed high in magnesium or with a solution of epsom salts (magnesium sulphate).

I thought maybe magnesium deficiency but if you look close at the leaves,it doesn’t look like it if you’ve seen real magnesium deficiency before. Google photos online.

Thank you for the replies! I did wonder if they had been hit by the weather, but I was worried it was something worse! Obviously I dont want it spreading elsewhere if it isnt something nice.

They were perfectly ok in the greenhouse, then I moved them outside to harden off (I always grow my tomatoes outside) because I needed the space in the greenhouse for other things! I'm wondering now if I was a little too eager, and they have been hit by cold winds/rain.

It won’t spread to other tomato plants but the others could start showing the same signs on their own,it’s a bit cold outside at night, how many plants are out there have you got some fleece to insulate them a bit?

Ahh its about 20 plants (went a bit overboard!), totally my own fault, just doing what I normally do and not thinking about the night temps, even if the days havent been too bad. I think this month has just been so blurgh, and chilly, but it didnt even cross my mind to worry about the cold. Sadly I dont have any fleece, but ive put them in a spot where it tends to stay a bit warmer. Thank you again for the help!

I was wondering how they were getting on. Had it been blight I guess it would have been much more obvious by now.
                Thanks for the update.

Just a quick update on my cold battered tomatoes! They are now blissfully happy and seem to have got over their little blip. They are so happy, that every single flower is now setting to fruit, and if they all ripen it will be a little bonkers. The wonders of nature!
