  • Mixing up compost

Morning! I have been unimpressed with the peat free compost on sale and want to make up my own mix. There is plenty of advice out there for this. Can anyone advise me please on a) whether is is ok to store compost overwinter and where to store it. b) what to store it in. Thanks in advance.

It's best not to store compost. It continues to decompose and both texture and nutrient levels deteriorate over the winter. This goes for shop-bought stuff and home made. Buy or make it fresh each spring.

Thanks Ameno. What would you recommend I use to mix my compost in at the start of the season. There is so much stuff out there.

I scraped a layer of soil up from where a compost darlek had stood.
It has worked well for most of my seedlings.
