Halos

Hello, I'm using some Halos in pots this year for my tomatoes and so far I'm thinking have I wasted my money. Are they neccessary? How far do the roots go down? The reason I think this is that the same varieties in pots without Halos are doing much better than the ones with, Ok, they've only been in about 4 weeks and have a long way to go but they are doing better I had good results before I tried them last year but I was not looking after them due to many things. All in a secluded enclosed garden that gets easily over 90f and last year was off the scale many days, south Dorset..
I'll see how they progress but just wondered if anyone on here has used them with and how you feel.

I’ve not used them because it’s an added expense that I don’t thinks needed,I know people who have bought them & liked them in compost grow bags,gives some height,so I suppose it makes it easier work for planting in grow bags if you just put the halos over the growbag hole,very light work,ideal for a lot of people.

They are ideal for grow bags and once plants are established you will get added support for the frame, but if growing in pots and getting good results, why change, though its always nice to try something else to see if it reduces the workload or produces a larger crop

I have to agree, looked a good idea at the time but when they have all died off it will be down to Farmer Palmers car boot sale and sell them on to someone with grow bags. A bit like Rootrainers which never worked for me.

Last year I dusted off my halos and planted up a cucumber in one over a wideish but shallow pot. It did really well. I think the halo gave extra soil depth and stopped the roots from becoming too wet and it was certainly easy to manage. It was in the corner of the GH. I will be doing again this year,

My GH is secured to concrete blocks so I’ve just planted a cucumber in an Halo to give the plant more height.
It’s a weedy looking cuc so I’m not sure how it will do.

Mine were already in use so will see how they go but I think next year they'll be off to the car boot.
