I have a Cucumber (Marketmore) growing in a long tom with compost with a hole cut out the bottom so the root system can spread into the large old aluminium tub that is planted in (also 2 Courgettes) So far there have been no cucumbers, a few flowers and just a weeny, pathetic cucumber about 10 cm that doesn't get any bigger. I am feeding with comfrey liquid and seaweed.

Cucumber not fruiting

Seems like there’s too many plants of the same type planted together in a container. Did you mean 10mm not 10cm? 10cm would be alright My cucumbers are behaving strange for the first time ever, keep giving male flowers, they’re all female variety ‘Diva’. I think they were stressed with the hot beginning they had,the temp in June must’ve set them back from fruiting happily.Location : Essex

Marketmore is an old fashioned variety which needs pollination to set fruit (most modern varieties will set without pollination), so my first guess would be that they simply haven't pollinated.

I’ve grown diva for years too,I’ve never seen so many male flowers,it does show stress when they give male flowers I’ve had about one male flower occasionally with this variety shortly after planting but I planted these ages ago, usually they are growing a lot of female/cucumbers by now,it’s really different this year. I’ve got three more younger plants to plant out soon so I’ll see what happens with them, hope they don’t get stressed bout somethingLocation : Essex

My La Diva are also producing male flowers and all varieties are behaving oddly. This is Mini Munch, in my greenhouse (the La Diva are at my friend's but are doing the same thing)
The cucumber at the top of the picture is about ready but there are 3 or 4 small ones below it that are clearly not going to develop and are starting to go yellow. The plant is in a self watering pot and has not been allowed to dry out and it is an all female variety that does not need pollinating, so the only conclusion is that it didn't like the weather when those flowers were developing. It has done a lot better than the other Mini Munch I grew, which was planted at the allotment and keeled over and died for no apparent reason. The leaves at the bottom of the plant are going yellow but the top of the plant is almost at the greenhouse roof and looks very happy.Last edited by Penellype; 07-07-2023, 07:04 PM.A life is like a garden. Have to say, I have given up trying to grow cucumbers.
Year after year I have tried all types and varieties.
I have had them in the greenhouse, out in the garden, in containers and every which way with little or no success.
I buy them in the supermarket and use the space for other things.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Looks similar to the colour of one of my pumpkin plants. It was a spare so in a smallish pot for a while after I planted the others out. I planted out in a bed and it has gradually gone back to a healthier green colour although smaller than the other plants. I haven’t particularly fed it with anything I think it just needed more nutrients and space.

Well, still no cucumbers on other 2 healthy plants with plenty of flowers that don’t fruit or fall off. Feeding as advised. Its absolutely ridiculous and doesn’t make sense. The other yellowing, pathetic plant has given up.
I have said it before and will say it again, the quality of shop bought seeds has rapidly gone downhill. I shall try and source them from a reputable mail order company next year.
Absolutely gutted 😡Last edited by Marb67; 16-08-2023, 09:15 AM.
