  • Strange marks on toms

Just been into the greenhouse and found 2 ripe toms but one has dark mottled blotches and the other a light circle on the bottom. before anyone suggests it's blight it is definitely NOT blight. The plant it has fallen off is perfectly healthy with NO signs of blight (leaves or stalk) so what on earth can it be ?

The one on the right looks as if something may have nibbled it when it was small, and as it's grown, the scar has grown too.

The one on the left may be potassium deficiency.

    Endless wonder.

The one on the left looks like blight - the green and brown on the rhs, and the one on the right dunno.

Well its not blight as I said in the op. The plant has NO sign of it anywhere. The fruits are usually the last to show symptoms of blight long after it has advanced on the foliage.

I agree with this,it does look like blight,if the plant was healthy why is the green bit at the top of the tomato not green & healthy,it’s half brown & rotten looking.

The right one is blossom end rot.

The left one does indeed look like blight (the browning stalk, too), although if there are no signs of blight at all on the plant itself then that is fairly odd. Maybe try tasting a tiny bit of the affected area? If it's blight, you'll soon be able to tell from the taste (it'll taste foul).

Although I agree it looks like blight, it absolutely can't be as again, there is no sign of it on any of the plants. Blight never manifests itself in a single fruit before it has advanced itself on the foliage well before it affects the fruit. As I found it on the floor I wonder if it has bruised.

Is blossom end rot not always dark brown or black?

No. In fact I find it's most often that beige colour. If it goes dark brown or black that's usually because secondary infection got in after the blossom end rot itself did its damage.
