Having never managed to get a decent undamaged crop of potatoes in the soil, I started experimenting with containers in 2012. At first I used potato bags, 3 potatoes to a bag, but found watering these difficult as the foliage tended to bend the tops of the bags down so that water ran out instead of into the compost. Even so I got good crops. In 2015 I changed to 30 litre buckets, again 3 potatoes to a bucket. Put the seed potatoes near the bottom of the buckets because the potatoes form on the buried stems, not on the roots. I find buckets much easier to deal with and usually get good crops. I don't think the variety of potato makes much difference.
For information I have had decent results in containers with Desiree, Charlotte, Lady Christl, Nicola, Rocket, Maris Bard, Arran Pilot, Pentland Javelin, Duke Of York, Sarpo Mira and Sarpo Axona.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

I grew Anya in potato bags and compost bags this year, 3 per bag, they did well. Just remembered, I still have 3 bags to go through.Nestled somewhere in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Good soil, strong winds and 4 Giant Puffballs!
Always aim for the best result possible not the best possible result
