Took propagator tops off the seedlings. Butterhead lettuce, cos lettuce, beef tomatoes and cima di rapa all coming up nicely. Used a heat mat this year and they germinated within 3 days!

Leek seedlings are doing well too.

Prepared the pea bed and set up the frame and netting. Then realised that I only had seeds for dwarf peas and took the bus to the nearest Garden centre...

Planted up the first two potato bags with sharpes express,I used compost from last year that had peas in,added BFB & potato fertiliser. I got the blowaway out the shed, realised both zips are broken off & I need more tape to repair it,it’s well old but I’m taking care of it,soon it will be just made of tape with string fastening Did a bit of weeding round the onions (uncovered them) nice to see the green shoots

Spent 3 hours shredding everything that I cut down a few days ago. I hate pyracantha. I am full of punctures and splinters

Mowed and edged the pocket handkerchief lawn, did a bit of weeding in the back flowerbeds, dug up some more hedge stumps, pinched out most of the sweet pea seedlings and put some out to start hardening off. Trimmed the bits of the Morello cherry tree that I could reach, which hadn't budded. Quite a successful day.

                  Mowed the lawns.
Rigged up some more muntjac deterrents consisting of wire mesh weaved through bamboo canes at about 6ft ish.
Bagged up 5 bags of pyracantha shreddings.
Looked around at everything else that needs doing and wept a little inside whilst adding them to my already long jobs list.

Did a fair bit of digging.
Dug up the yacon crowns I had buried after harvest, and replanted the living ones in their new position. 3 out of 6 are definitely alive, and one more might be. The hard frosts got to them, it seems, as some of the tubers nearer the surface were also frost damaged when I harvested them. The one I harvested the earliest and then replanted deeper than it was originally fared the best, with lots of shoots coming, so I think this winter I will earth them up if subzero temperatures are forecast, and that should protect them.
How easily do yacon take from cuttings?

Not much today, but potted on the asparagus seedlings and pricked out the cauliflowers.

Cleared a bed of psb added a layer of manure and popped in my first earlies. Had a bit of a weed around the fruit bushes and strawberries. Strawberries still need tidying up.

Today indoors I sowed three pots of spring onion, forty cells of French marigolds (two varieties). Outside two large pots of peas sowed direct & one large pot planted up with Charlotte potatoes. Weeded my growing areas & attached the clematis to the trellis at the bottom of the garden.

Potted on the cucumbers and chilies that I'm keeping, then had a nap for most of the day!

Yesterday was lovely and sunny and warm hit 18c. I carried on clearing beds and cutting back ivy that I'm clipping into a narrow hedge.
Took delivery of my first of hopefully not too many more loads of compost. Wickes multi peat free and miracle grow peat free. I haven't used them before so fingers crossed they'll be good enough, plus manure. I hate bags of manure,so blinking heavy!

Planted my everlasting sweet peas that I sowed last year.
Dug up more random clumps of a really invasive pink geranium.
Did a bit of general weeding.
Started the tomato/aubergine/cucumber/pepper hokey cokey in out shuffle.
