      • Started pruning my huge pyracantha, the amount of growth these shrubs put on in a season is ridiculous! I now look like I have been trying to wrestle a wild cat into a cat box. Not good

                            • Hoe'd the brassica bed and the spectacular bed of failures aka sweetcorn and squashes, of which I had none! Oh and I decided to grow a couple of courgette plants for the first time in years, didn't get a single fruit, actually, no, I did, it just grew to the size of a cocktail sausage and dropped off!

                              • Today I spent far too much time browsing all the posts I've been missing whilst too overwhelmed with work to skive off & visit over the last couple of weeks

I'm not sure it's been a great year for squash type stuff peanut - our 'Uchiki Kuri' grew really well, put out lots of flower, set lots of fruit, but then the weather decided we weren't getting any more proper summer weather & soooo many went squishy & rotted before getting past ping-pong ball size. We got 1 fruit off each plant (only grew 2 plants lol) but I'm actually quite pleased as I grew plants for my Mum who has better weather & soil but grew nothing edible at all.

I don't grow sweetcorn - I'm not keen on it really (although it's hard to say you don't like something until you've tried home-grown) & don't have the plot space - but it seems a lot of seasoned growers struggle with getting a consistent year-on-year success with UK weather.
