  • No broccoli sprouts

At the end of last Summer I planted out some purple or green (can't remember which) sprouting brocoli plants. They are growing very well in my tiny bed but no sprouts. When should I expect them?

Our PSB was planted out at the end of June 2023 and we started picking mid-late March 2024 I think.

Depending on the variety & your local climate of course but I'd have been expecting to be picking by now even with a later planting. The plants look healthy though so maybe worth waiting for a bit longer if you don't need the space for something else.

I wonder if they might not be producing if they're too close together - I grow mine at least 45cm apart as they can be quite big plants.

Like cabbages & most of the brassica lot, I'm always amazed how much space it looks like when first planted out but they really do benefit by growing much bigger & better than when I've put them closer in the past. OH nearly fell over when I told him our brussel sprouts needed to be 75cm apart
Location: SE Wales about 1250ft up

I've never known a brassica not to bolt ^h^h^h^h sprout eventually, so I would guess that it's going to happen sooner or later.
