Hi, I'm going to give sprouting peas a go over the weekend. Are these also called pea tops? Do you soak the peas overnight first? And do you cut and eat the sprouts do you eat the whole thing, seed and all? Please excuse my ignorance I haven't tried this before.

well i am growing these at the moment, i didn't sok them first, just bunged em into nice moist compost.
as for the rest i would be interested to know to, cos i think mine might be ready to cut, i know you just take the tops however, but, do they grow back? or do you have to plant another lot?Vive Le Revolution!!!'Lets just stick it in, and see what happens?'Cigarette FREE since 07-01-09

I think you cut the tops and leave them to grow back...for up to 3 times if I remember rightly.
I've got the first 5 come up, but put more in to soak last night and popped them an inch down in the compost this morning, the 5 looked pretty measly on their own.
I'm planning on taking the top 1-2 inches, popping them into rice at the end of it's cooking for about 30 seconds, draining and then serve.
Presumable, if you cut the tops, they grow back thicker next time, as they will grow side shoots? if so, excellent! I might keep one of these on the go - resowing every month or so - for a regular supply.

Err, I did this with half a box of organic dried packet (cooking) peas, pre-soaked them and then put them in a bean sprouter and they've sprouted....is this okay?
It seemed cheaper then buying 'seed' peas......
Will I still be able to eat them?

I tried this earlier in the year after seeing bags of 'pea shoots' in the salad section at M&S. They're really tasty served either as a straight salad or in risotto - a lot cheaper than M&S as well!come visit a garden
