    Anyone else's arrived yet?

Lucky you! The year really begins with the arrival of the seed potatoes.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

Seed potatoes are going out earlier and earlier each year.
It won't be long before we just pack them straight out of the field.
I had 120 orders this week for people wanting potatoes before Xmas.
I have been working till midnight for the last 3 days to make sure they got them.

There should be plenty left for you. I have a few varieties that are sold out and a few that are getting close to being sold out.
Pink Fir Apple must be in short supply as I have had a lot of trade callers wanting to buy them.
I have had some nice emails and phone calls off happy customers today which makes it all worth while.

It could be the ones I ordered from you which arrived today Tattieman. I only ordered them a couple of days ago though, and wasn't expecting to see them til January! I haven't had a chance to inspect them, or smell them, or anything yet - need OH to bring them in

Hi Sarah. Yes they should be from me and I hope they grow you a great crop.
There was no specific date of delivery put on your order so I thought they would make a nice Xmas present for you and sent them now.

I'm sure they will turn up soon.
They are probably due to be sent out in their next batch in January.
                    What varieties did you order?

Tattieman you have me quite worried now!! Apparently the seed potatoes we ordered from the allotment association won't be delivered till about feb or march - I have read that earlies need to be chitted first but not the maincrop. If this is so, isn't it a bit late to recieve them?

I wouldn't worry about that delivery date.
We don't plant our earlies until May and we don't chit them.
By chitting you are speeding up the growing process by making the tuber grow before it is planted in the ground.
Earlies planted in March could be ready in May/June and second earlies in June/July.
Chitting your spuds would make them ready quicker but how soon do you want them to be ready?

Does start the enthusiasm for the new season As usual I think I've overdone the spud order (got more to come - Sarpo & Harlequin frm T&M), but, we've got 3 plots to fill this year, so hopefully keep ourselves in spuds fot at least 6 months!
I'm wondering how much I'm going to be directing from a chair with a brew in hand though...

Well, I put my spuds in 1/3 of my plot in april and have just finished them this weekend...haven't bought spuds except the odd jacket spud since june - and half of ours had to be chucked due to total slug damage. So, concentrating on slug resistant, blight resistant ones next year, and will supplement it with container grown ones where we can.

Had to buy potatoes for the next week or so and my OH was wingeing today about the price of them...so looks like he is on side for maximum spud growing next year.
