  • How much earlier have you all had ripe fruit? I picked my first ripe cherries last week, and had the first ripe Shirleys today, but these weren't sown til the end of February.

    • Personal cock up, I sowed loads of cherry toms of which I have had tons of fruit to go with my salads but have not got many large toms for making sauce these were mainly a second sowing and have got the blight but apart from that really enjoyed the experiment and do it again please.

      • Mine are still very green and today I have pulled up aprox 16 plants very few toms on them and most are no good.
I dont think its blight but the other fungus one ( cant remember what its called.)
I have put the green ones that I picked in the plastic grenhouse to see if they will ripen in the heat.

        • Sorry...I kind of missed keeping up to date with this thread.
Although as the early sown toms became a bit of a nuisance,re windowsill space, really pleased we gave it a go & will be doing the same again next(or is that this?)year.
We were at least three weeks earlier than most of the well seasoned lottie chaps...sorry can't even remember roughly when we harvested our first few,but a good few weeks ago.
They've become really strong plants with loads of fruit!
Cheers Zazen for setting up the thread....just another twenty weeks or so & we can start again!
The thing I liked, other than the harvest, was having litle seedlings to tend to in those boring winter months...even though the temptation was often there to over tend!

                  • I will be having a go next year as I had to wait ages for the first tomato this year. I am hoping for a new greenhouse which will also make a difference. Don't think it is worth sowing any type of veg seed till the shortest day has passed.
