They were near the boiler, but I 've moved them after reading the other posts.

I think I gave them too much heat and they germinated in the night and then shot up in the dark looking for some sun ??? err if you know what I mean

    Thanks Bride,

bit of a mixed blessing cos I hate to abandon even one seedling but I think they're going to be just too leggy........

I will give them a few days, but I think I may have to sow again on the next moon date with less heat and more light....

    it's a learning curve...

Just had another look - all varieties now have several up and off and bumps poking through, apart from the strwaberries and , I forgot to mention earlier, a pot sown with some huckleberries (thanks seahorse)

OOOOOooooooh, it's far too exciting, this innit....

Might be worth a try to repot them down. Dig up the seedling (don't touch the stem, only the seed leaves), make a DEEP hole and plant as close to the seed leaves as you can. Eventually tomatoes root from the stems anyway. I've had some success with leggy seedling ths way.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

that's what i am going to do with mine when they get too tall for the propagator, not sure i have enough 3 inch pots, so i may have to plant some of in buckets until its outside time.4 to a bucket.

( i swear i only put 1 seed on each cell, there is so many more than that)

I just found some more self saved seeds, baby plums, so i have sown six modules of those
2 seeds in each ( can't remember if i fermented these so here is hoping)
        unheated propagator
        radiator shelf

Here is a picture of what mine look like so far, Green tiger, Sunburst, then French Black. The French black were slowest to come up. The first 2 are beginnng to show tiny second leaves.
This afternoon I made the 'light box' using the christmas lights. I do need to put tinfoil at the back, so the light is reflected out more, this was just a prototype
The seedling are a bit leggy, hopefully the lights will help.

ok , question, how will a light box help using xmas tree lights?

I thought grow lights had to be the right spectrum? like a north light bulb? or a daylight bulb?

Owt's better than nowt I would say!

BarleySugar DID say it was an experiment?

Maybe you do need the corect colour spectrum lights to sustain growth, but if you are giving plants natural daylight on a windowsill, a bit of 'normal' light will at least stop them from bending towards the window? Probably!

                OK, was just askin.
i tend to turn mine to correct the bend , must admit i have never noticed them bending towards artificial lighting.

None of mine are showing yet Anyway, I've done some more today, 4 Japanese Black Triffele Tomato, the hops that Flummery sent me last September, some Alpine Strawberries, leeks and some potato seeds (saving some potatoes till others say they're doing it as well!)
My girls found their way into my heart and now they nest there

I'd started another thread in Undercover Operations http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...hts_25607.html
Someone suggested using blue LED christmas lights, so I thought I'd give it a go.

yesterday the tomatoes germinated. It's taken nine day in all and i had them covered with a polythene bag an raised just off the radiator as i don't use heated propagator's. No sign o the pepper yet though.
We're off to a start at last!
