I really don't think leaving a light on all night will help. What we need is longer days.
Thats a good idea! I think maybe mine are a bit too warm perhaps?? Now that they have germinated and are already a couple of inches high do you think they might be better off in a cooler place than my warm bedroom window sill? I think I will get my 3" pots out as soon as the snow clears

Yes, Emilymup, if they are very warm I would move them to a cooler place and transplant them right up to the seed leaves as soon as the weather allows. But don't forget to warm the compost for them if it has been living outside - you don't want to shock them. That could set them back weeks - or they might never recover.

Maybe there is a good transplanting moon day. Could Zazen tell us.
I bought a book - In Tune with the Moon - but it's not making too much sense to me.
      Bit thick - maybe.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Moon days for fruits for Jan are all in the first post.

I blow on mine several times a day once they are up to start them thickening up, and if they get leggy, will also take the compost up to the seed leaves when potting on.

On the outside looking in... I sowed some tomato seeds on 27th like you all, but no sign of nothin' yet.

They're saved seed from my daughter's plant of last year - she got loads from that plant.

that's not far behind, i love seeing all these different results. just hope we all get toms of them, i am particularly proud of my self saved black cherry seeds, cos they were from the last surviving tom plant my dad had before he died. nothing special really, he grew them from packet seed my mum thinks, but i kinda like the continuity

Ok so far I have through

                    3 out of 4 Inca
                    2 out of 4 tigarella
3 out of 4 sweet million
3 out of 4 tumbling tom
                    2 out of 4 harbinger
1 out of 4 garten perle

Not had the prop switched on yet as don't think it gets down too low in the kitchen overnight. It heats up to 8 degrees warmer than the outside temp so that would prob be too hot.

Hopefully the rest might pop up soon. Am using room temp or luke warm water.

Heeeeelp! I think i've done something wrong!

I planted all my seeds on the 5th Jan, as my chosen moon date:

                            Tomatoes
                            Tomatillos
                            Aubergines
                            Chillis
                            Sweet peppers
                            Strawberries, alpine

The varieties of which I will post later, with details of how I planted them, etc.

But for now, it is 2.15 on the 8th of January, and of the thirteen pots I planted.......my seeds are all through bar two lot of toms and my strawberries, one lot took less than 24 hours...aargle, are they supposed to be doing this?

I admit to singing to them while planting and I sowed them between the wee small hours of 12.05am and 3.30am on the 5th....I couldn't sleep.....

But blimey, I've never seen owt like it...

well i have never had problems germinating by moon dates, i dont do all the fancy workings out though, but keeping them going is always a bit trickier .
                              nice going though.

                                Hi Crazy.

Are they particularly hot [ie in a heated propagator or on top of radiator]?
