  • PW, what other varieties are you growing this season?

    • Mine all had to be staked the other day as were about to topple over. Since I potted them on they look better though.
Got a few more coming through in case I lose them, will have to give loads away I think and am going to try more outside for sauces this year too. Last year despite the rain they did really well..
Have promised the school, my mum, and several friends some when they get bigger so nmaybe it won't be so bad....
Might sow some more, I just can't seem to stop myself. (step away from the seeds...)

        • Chooks for tea then Shirl

My tom's an sweet peppers have been taking advantage of the warm weather in the south and have been transfered on a tray to a sunny corner along with the sweet peppers all sown on 28/12/2008, and then brought back indoors late afternoon. I made a light reflector box as instructed in GYO mag for the window sill, and of an eve they have been getting extra light from the under cupboard lighting in the kitchen. They are looking strong and stocky, not leggy at all and the sweet peppers have got second an third leaves coming.
I am very pleased with them

                    • my first sowings are all still doing well, they don't seem leggy at all now that i have potted them on, and are on their third/fourth set of leaves now

i was tempted to do a second sowing but i have more than i need already seeing as they all germinated, 36 tom plants i think i may be donating some elsewhere.

                        • Mine now look like this, planted end of november, i think the 29th, over the last week or so i got some flower buds, today i have 1 flower open

There all between 2.5 and 3 foot tall, repotted today from plastic bag 2L pots to 10L pots, still no idea what types they are but i think they might be yellow pear cherry tomato, i planted a few types and some died when the dogs ate them , i presume i lost the tags from them all in the sheepdog attack....

Flower opened today, how long is it normal to take from flower to fruit?

Heres the new ones, planted on the 12th of january, roma, sweet millions and garden pearl

                          • Today potted on:
                            x3 Essex Wonder
                            x3 Gardeners Delight
                            x2 Yellow Butterfly
                            X1 Brown Berry
                            x4 Tigerella
                            x4 Money Maker

Have far too many tomatoes for my requirements so have already moved a few on to new homes. They have been growing well for this time of year but are still abit on the small size.

                            • My tomatoes, planted 27th Dec, have 5 sets of leaves and small flower buds showing already. They are a bit leggy, but I will have to plant them into their final pots soon if they are coming into flower, so I'll put them deep again. They might have to take their chance in the greenhouse, wrapped with fleece on cold nights, as, at the moment, I can't think of anywhere there would be space and light for them indoors.
I am really surprised they have come on so quick, because they were only sown 2 weeks earlier than I normally do, and usually those plants have gone into final pots mid to late April.

I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

                              • mine are all doing well still, in an unheated greenhouse for the last week inside another mini greenhouse hardening off, on their 5th set of leaves and no more signs of legginess since being repotted nice and deep.
