This is my first time so pleaze b gentle with me....I accepted a challenge from a mate (a chef ) to grow him a large pumpkin ..which he would turn into some kinda fantastic meal for halloween ....it is now the size of a small football ... do u think its likely to grow to an acceptable size by 'd' day OR should I buy one closer to the date?????

Reason: spelling mistake!
Hi Nerd & welcome. If you mulch the pumpkin with some manure & keep watering it might make it in time, you're lucky mine is only the size of a tennis ball yet! (My first attempt at pumpkin though so that's my excuse as well!)
Hi Nerd, I know a Nick the Red.... not the same one, I presume.... He wears Medieval costume and plays with swords and such.....
I have a sneaky feeling that Pumpkins behave in the same way as Courgettes..... You turn your back on a tiddler and before you know it you have a GIANT on your hands! Hope so, for your sake anyway..... And.... It's still quite a few weeks till All Hallows.....
Whilst all these threads are on pee tonight, I suppose I should add that I had heard that pee is one of the secrets to growing prize winning ( as in size) pumpkins.

First time I have grown pumpkins too. Football sized one has been slugged and woodliced. Extra large one looks like one of those babies with a funny shaped head (ie flat on one side. Still it's not about looks!
Bright Blessings
