i am completely rubbish at growing peppers, I have never managed to eat a single home grown pepper ever. I will give it one more go this year if I don't have any luck, I will give up. Probably. Like I said I was going to give up with butternut squashes and still I carry on.

I've found that I get the best harvests with peppers from a good early sowing (Jan if possible) of seeds which go for an early fruiting. Last year I got a good greenhouse crop off both Gypsy and Lipstick and even a few from outside plants which I was very impressed with considering it was such a rubbish summer. Also tried Californian Wonder which were rubbish and won't be repeated. Note that the fruits I got weren't that big but were plentiful and lovely and sweet.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

oh I won't Snager, every year i say i won't bother with squashes or aubergines or peppers and every year my resolve breaks and I try again because they are my favorite veggies ever. I think I will seek out some early pointy peppers and try sowing them when i do the early tomato trial.

Anyone else had problems with grubs inside the fruit though? I've googled but can't find references to what insect it is, or how to stop it. No one I've spoken to in RL has had the same problem either .

Thanks Kernowyon I was searching for sweet peppers, so missed this one about chillis. Interestingly though, I have grown chillis in the same greenhouse, without problems. I suppose they must like the peppers better. The only thing I found for peppers was a pepper weevil, but that is only in the warmer parts of the US, thank goodness.
However, I don't know how I'll stop the little ****, as I can't say i've ever seen the holes until I pick the peppers, and the maggot is already in there. I put them in the bin, not the compost so .....

Can I just ask what you are all using to feed the peppers with as they are mature plants, rather than when young plants.

Sometimes a change of feed ratio can make a big difference in the amount of fruits on the plants.

                    Regards

I don't feed them at all, just let them get on with it. but if I grew in pots I suppose they would need something extra as the nutrients are limited.

I tend to feed mine the same as my toms and that seems to work OK.

Like Alison, my sweet peppers get the same feed as my tomatoes, myy chillies however rough it and just get watered.
