overwintering parsnips

I was given some parsnip plug plants in September and they were planted out (dont know the name of them), i was told they were overwintering parsnips and i was wondering if any other grapes has these or can give me any advice about them, im just a bit concerned due to the amount of frost at the moment, and was wondering if i should be using fleece on them or not?

as far as I know parsnips are better after the frosts I still have a few in my lottie.

Sorry don't grow parsnips but parsnips are meant to taste better after being frosted (correct me if I'm wrong)

They are usually sown in February.

I don't think plug planting parsnips is such a good idea as the tap root will be broken.................and September seems a funny time to plant em as they usually grow through the summer and are harvested Autumn and winter. Curioser and curioser!

We have lots of nips in our allotment. They are huge and very tasty. We had some on Christmas day and have many more to scoff.

I don't think we planted ours until much later than February though - people have a lot of trouble with parsnip germination - we just chucked them in at about June time and about 200 came up.

its a myth that parsnips taste better after frosts

I don't know if it was the frost or not, but the parsnips I used at Christmas tasted much better (sweeter) than those used in Oct. Same sowing and location etc.

Yep defo parsnips and they are thriving at the moment, bright green foliage, i thought it was a bit odd planting them in September but they have grown loads so roots havent been damaged either, oh well, nothing ventured nothing gained as they say, its all one big learning curve for me, and it will be quite exciting to see what happens to them!!
