Fibre glass raised beds?

Mr H has access to fibreglass panels. Would thes be any use for panels in raised beds? Any thoughts?

One other really numpty question. My beds are already dug is it best to build the planks in situ or make a frame and place it on the beds? Does that make any sense?

I should imagine that fibreglass would be excellent, so long as it had supporting beams etc to hold back the weight, no maintenance either so another bonus.

Fiberglass don't like the sun much and will break down over time. It would also depend on how think the panels are as it's very flexible so would need a lot of support.

Yes agree with the support, but not sure about the sun,, my 18 year old fibreglass pond is still going strong, and my old robin never rusted :-)

don't have fibre glass beds but measured out beds, dug them then placed wooden beds into situ if that helps.

Depends if they are coated. Natural fiberglass ie with no paint or gel coat will break down quite quickly in the sun (when I say quite quickly I mean in a few years not weeks). This is made even worse if it's kept wet and the surface is broken. Thats why fiberglass roofs are covered and your Robin was painted

Just spent a chilled hour looking at past posts about raised beds and checking out the pictures. Im now bursting with ideas that will have Mr H busy for weeks
The fibre glass we could get would be coated so would last a while, but I like the look of wood better, purely for aesthetic reasons. I am thinking about the fibre glass cos Mr H can get some for free, which is always a good thing

Have to agree and dissagree,,,, fibreglass is not normally painted as such but created using a gell coat which forms part of the actual fibreglass, and my old robin had a gell coat not paint,,,, yes I know nit picking but in this day and age we must all be correct!!

You are indeed correct. I was trying not to get to technical.
