After chitting. Is it o.k to put pure unadulterated horse muck into the trench, followed by a thin layer of soil, then sitting the spud's on the soil?
A Novice.
I got my tatties last Friday, they are still unpacked.I have 2 bags of Desiree and 1 Pink Fir Apple.
I keep my dinner tatties in the wicker basket in the kitchen, usually they start sprouting after a week or so.
I have my potatoes chitting away but im wondering what colour should the shoots be? they seem to be a really dark colour, i was expecting green shoots, is this dark colour ok??
Life isnt about surviving the storm.....But learning to dance in the rain.
Dark green/grey shoots are good as they will grow thick and strong. Pale green/white shoots are bad as they will be thin and weak. Sounds like you've got it just right and the spuds are doing great

Depends on the potato, I think. I've got some Swift with green shoots and Desiree potatoes which are purple in colour.
I've had my seed potatoes in the garage for a month, all stood in eggboxes. It's unheated and has no direct sun but you can see easily enough in there. I've not got any chits yet....... I've Rooster & Pink Fir Apple.....
