  • No reason why you can't plant your main crop potatoes. It is a little early and you will have to keep an eye out for frosts once the shoots are above ground. But unless you have acres of them it is easy enough to cover with a bit of fleece. If you haven't got fleece then anything will do just to keep the frost out. Or just cempletely earth them up.

    • TY Goji berry - I'll put them in at the first oppertunity. They're going in bags so I think I'll start them indoors and put them out after this rain and hail stops!

You've got hail as well have you? Sixty mile an hour winds down here today. The plastic cloches I put over my beds to warm them have not fared well

            • They need approx 20 weeks to maturity - going from memory - I only grow earlies now.

              • Seed potatoes - what now?

A bit of advice please. I have been given three different type of seed potatoes in net bags.
                "Picasso, Kestral and Pentlin Javelin".
I have put them in a cool cupboard at the moment (they arrived yesterday).
What should I do with them?
                Should I plant them now?

                • Workhorse, I've merged your thread with another with plenty of advice on what to do next.

I don't think you need to chit any of those as they are main crops, but have a look as to when others are putting theirs in, if they haven't already. Mine are going in on St Patrick's day [17th].

                  • I was advised that Pent Javelin were first earlies, Kestrel were Second earlies and Picasso were main crop. Is this correct?

                    • Sorry, yeah - Pentland Javelin are first earlies. Can you get those chitting now and pop them in when you are ready?

Should they be planted yet, or should they be stored, and if so how and where.i.e: in the light or in darkness?

                          • chitting potato question

THis is my first time using seed potatos and I have very limited space on windowsills.

Is it ok to put them out in the mini greenhouse in the day and bring them in at night?

                            I'm in Glasgow.

                            Thank you.

Best thing you can do is put them out there and just protect from frost.
