  • What should I be doing at this time of year?

    Hi
I'm new to the forum, my name is Karen and I live with my husband and 15 month old daughter. We grew a few veg last year on our sloped veg plot (we dug out terraces) but didn't start early enough.
What should I be doing now? When do I need to start?
We grew onions, potatoes, carrots, beans and tomatoes last year. Would possibly like to do these as well as cabbage, sprouts, salad stuff. Any suggestions? We love veg in this house.
    Thanks
    Karen

Hi and welcome. Do you want to put your location into your profile? It helps when giving advice.
Most veg gets started in March in this house (we don't get much frost, but it gets really cold in Feb/March)
I'll be starting my chillies inside in February.

      Hi and welcome.
As Two Sheds has said its a bit early, or a bit late depending on what you're trying to grow.
My overwintered onions and garlic went in at the end of November and my first ones outside wont go till end of Feb, apart from:
Leeks in modules, spring onions in modules and onions from seed. The onion family dont need huge heat to germinate, so you can try them now.
If your ground is soft enough I would be outside preparing that rather than worrying too much about what you can plant. Good luck though.

At this time of year, put your feet up, browse the catalogues and enjoy planning the year to come!

Thanks for the replies. I'm glad I haven't missed out on when I should plant out. We're in yorkshire - near bradford.
I'll get planning then until march ish
          Thanks again

It's always a great temptation to start to early. I find most things catch up anyway if you leave it till March.
