  • Moon gardening

After reading Zazen's first post on the early tomato thread, I got quite interested in the idea of planting seeds according to the moon. Is there anywhere online where I can get dates for planting rather than buying a calendar?
I know I sound cheap but I thought I would try that first!!

Try this one here -> Moon Planting Guide . Not quite the same results as the book/calender I purchased for this year, but a starting point...

That is the one I use too and the results have been good. Give it a year with that, then see if you are interested enough to buy a book.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I sowed the early tomato seeds like everyone else on the moon day and I'd love to try some more moon gardening to see how it goes.

Thanks a million for the link.

I went out today and bought a gardening diary, i have marked in all the quarters so i know when to do what, different sites tell you different things, but it's not too hard to work out the basics.

I have all the moon phases for 2009 and am working on incorporating them into a nice online diary, if i can be bothered.

i have to be honest i don't bother with the zodiac signs part, i dont really believe in astrology to that extent, although moon phases , tides etc make perfect sense to me when it comes to growing things.

i like to keep it simple.

....problem is that it's in French!!

( mind you- I'm quite enjoying translating it a bit at a time...that's about the length of my attention span!!)

i thought i would add this which i found whilst researching.
it has a 30 day free trial, and is $49 to buy, i cant cos i don't have a credit card, but, i am looking at the trial and its quite an interesting little piece of software, combines moon dates , zodiac signs and a plant database, with frost dates etc, and a calender, you can choose which month to look at, and once you have bought it, if you do, you can download the next years dates too, these are free but donations would be nice ( they said that)
              check it out here
Moon Planting Matrix Software Application for lunar gardeners

even if you don't fancy buying it, it will give you all the info you need for 2009 if you can write it all down in 30 days

oooh oooh ohhh they do paypal i think

A preview of the good stuff

this is just a screenshot of the calendar, the interactive part of the program is pretty darned good, i don't usually pay for things, but i am seriously tempted .

well i think i got all the info i need for now, i can't afford to buy it just yet, but if anyone is interested i have screenshots of the calendar, which includes what to plant when, so i am up for it if anyone else is?

i can't be beggered to enter all the plants and stuff just in case i don't buy it, but it looks like a nice easy to use piece of software for people that want to combine a planting calendar with moon planting, brat2 tells me it costs about £25-£30 in real money

There's a month's trial for free, and I'm going to try it with 3 plants and see how it goes.

Well, I wouldn't download it yet. I just picked a few at random as it builds a standard database - and no sowing instructions until April. So I'd wait if you want to really try it.

It has a list of lots of tasks though - I think it might start nagging when it realises I haven't done most of them.

thats why i didn't bother filling it in, on a 30 day trial its not going to hit our planting time?

                              but.............
i am happy to interpret the data, and post it weekly if people are interested, its actually not that hard. leafy, fruit, root, weeding.
the zodiac thingy is just back up, fertile , semi-fertile- barren -semi-barren by sign.
maybe we should start a thread , a proper one, 7.3 days cycle ?
i find it easy cos i use the moon phases for other stuff, i just have to incorporate planting etc, but if a thread would help i am happy to oblige?
