  • Had tomato blight last year!

I had tomato blight which got into the greenhouse from the outdoor tom's Has anyone got any suggestions on what to put on the soil (in the greenhouse) to ensure I get rid of any spores. It really did kill all the tomatoes very quickly. Fortunately my potatoes survived! Thank goodness!

Hopefully 3 weeks of frosty nights will put paid to the spores, if there are any. If you cleaned out all the tomato plants carefully then you will have removed the spores too.

      Blight is airborne.
Do the spores survive in soil at all? If so, why don't they infect the plants earlier in the season?

I don't know the answer, I'm just thinking out loud

Is tomato blight the same as Potato blight? If so according to the Scottish Agricultural College (SAC) and some othe websites I've looked at blight is airborne, doesn't remain in the soil, read this site for more information:

Just read something else and they are the same fungus Phytophora infestans, it's only likely to be in the soil if you have left diseased potato tubers, most is spread by wind though and usually originates from wherever potato dumps are (where diseased tubers are dumped). Also rain splash from diseased plants can spreasd spores to toher plants and to tubers in the ground.
